Senator Collins is an example of what can happen when the wrong woman is in office.

I hope that what has taken place over the past few weeks helps people who are chanting "Girl Power" to realize that it's not enough just to promote or elect women to positions of power; that alone won't protect human rights, any more than promoting or electing men to positions of power has ever been enough to protect human rights.

I also hope that Senator Collins' behavior will help to stop the narrative that "old, white men" are the source of all of the world's problems.  There are a lot of old, white men who are nice people.  You can't describe a person with a label.
