What to do about the Syrian refugees if they can't return home to a Syrian democracy?

Where can they live?

How many billions of dollars will other countries have to spend, for how many years, to provide for their needs?

That's not even to mention:


-the inevitable fragmentation of Syrian culture in diaspora

-the trauma of a generation of Syrians born into war and having to grow up in the subsequent instability of transient life


Mr. Assad's ambition has a price tag that the world shouldn't have to pay.
