Have you ever heard of a rich person being described in terms of "functioning?"
I am poor enough to be homeless, and I have a psychiatric history. Therefore, no matter what my abilities, appearance, efforts or achievements, I am described as "homeless but high-functioning" and "mentally ill but high-functioning."
Have you ever heard of a rich person, even a rich person who commits crimes, does drugs and has been diagnosed with a mental illness at any time in his or her life described as "rich but low-functioning," or even "rich but high-functioning?"
No, you haven't, because wealth overcomes almost every stigma, even though, as I now know, some segments of the wealthy population are, as groups, far more dangerous to society than all of the world's poor people together could ever be.
