Not once.
Not "He's done so much for black people," not "things are so much better," no descriptions of life on a personal or societal level of what he did for black people.
Not ever. Not when he was President, and not now that he isn't.
It was never a topic of conversation, for conversations that people had with me or that I overheard. Not in homeless shelters. Not at work. Not at school. Not in public transportation. Not walking around.
They didn't say anything bad or good. They didn't talk about him.
People know more than those who look down on them from above want to think they do. Regular people don't have the luxury of creating a psychologically comfortable reality and living in it.
