It's not just that they are "speaking truth to power." They are treated as if they are selfish. They are expected to accept mistreatment because the Democratic Party is "good" and the Republican Party is "bad."
After all, GIRLS, you don't want to say anything that could help the party that wants to take away your reproductive freedom win, do you? Of course you don't; you'd never do that to women. You don't want to help a bunch of racists, do you? Of course you don't; you'd never do anything to hurt multiculturalism. You don't want to help people who want to starve children by taking away food stamps or make the elderly homeless by taking away Social Security, do you? Of course you don't; you're not some heartless BITCH who DESERVES everything that's going to be said about you if you don't shut up.
You don't want to ruin things for America, do you? You don't want to let the wrong people take over the country and make the world a worse place.
You don't want all those hicks in the South and the middle of the United States to win, do you? Those stupid jerks? You'd choose them over giving a nice guy a break? Everybody makes mistakes, you know? The important thing is that we learn from our mistakes.
