Small business

Today, I heard a man talking about cleaning out his office and looking for a job.  I felt terrible.

I have almost always worked for corporations.  I like working for them.  I like that they are big enough to absorb my mistakes.  I also have almost never worked for a corporation that didn't tolerate a certain level of outspokenness from me in appreciation for my intelligence and diligence.  I have almost never been or felt unappreciated at work, whether for a corporation or for a small business.

I'm sure that many of the criticisms of corporations are valid.  I'm sure I would have them, too, if I knew more than I do.  I'm always at the entry level, happy to go to work, punch the clock and go home.  If I were to work my way up, I might run into more objectionable practices, but I'm always so busy giving my opinion about what should be improved where I am that I never work my way up.

People shouldn't be afraid to have or work for small businesses because they think they'll be financially devastated by a pandemic or other disaster.  People have the right to have and work for small businesses.  At the very least, they shouldn't be disincentivized to strike out on their own, because every business has to start somewhere.  They shouldn't be encouraged to start having a dependent mentality because of fear.
