Homeless shelters are entirely dysfunctional.

What about issuing as many Section 8 vouchers as the federal government can afford, with unlimited dates, and auditing every shelter and every homeless support service in the country to make sure that those people are housed within a year?

One problem is that the vouchers expire quickly, but the support systems are so dysfunctional that homeless people are given all the blame.  There are some nice people working in shelters and other homeless support systems, but all of the systems are dysfunctional.

I have been safe from Covid; homeless people haven't.  I also used the first stimulus check to pay my rent portion months in advance.  I have had no food insecurity during the Covid crisis.  I do not have to worry that homelessness will disrupt my ability to be employed.

It is a disgrace that there are elderly, disabled and seriously ill people who are homeless.  It is of no consequence what they ever did in their lives; it is a national disgrace for them to be homeless.
