Nodding across the street from Healthcare for the Homeless

He's walked toward the street-side curb and almost fallen into the grass several times.  I hope he doesn't fall into the street.

I don't know how to begin to talk about everything that is sickening about this.

There was a woman on the other side of the street also nodding when I took these pictures; she was on the sidewalk right in front of Healthcare for the Homeless.

What about all the money that is given to everyone and everything that are supposed to help the homeless?

What about the entertainment industry and its neverending glamorization of drugs, even though its stars can pay for real rehab and they never end up like this?

While I've been writing this page, no fewer than 2 healthcare workers from Boston Medical Center have seen this situation developing.  One of them saw him before he passed out, asked him if he needed help and then walked away when he didn't answer her.  The other one saw him like this and went back to Boston Medical Center, presumably to tell someone that he was out here.

While she was gone, and one brief sternum rub later, he woke up and decided that traffic was not an issue.

When the 2nd healthcare worker walked back out and asked me what was going on, I said "He's over there, for all the good it will do him."

She said "That's just what they do," meaning that's just what addicts do despite all of the hard work of everyone who wants to help.

That one sentence exemplifies the attitude toward impoverished addiction by health care providers that all the funding and budget allocations in the world will never change.

I said "No, that's what THEY do," indicating Healthcare for the Homeless, but that statement applies to the entire shelter system.
