Speaking of smoking

If you have never heard a homeless cough, you have never heard coughing.

I'm not talking about homeless harassment.  I'm talking about homeless people who, when they cough, sound as if their lungs are the thinnest of eroded membranes, full of tar, a few hacks away from rupturing.  

Sometimes, a homeless person who has those lungs will cough for several nighttime hours, the sound of imminent respiratory failure raspily booming throughout an entire side of the dormitory, where dozens of people are trying to sleep.
