A real free press is an essential part of a functional democracy.  Most of the American media does not seem to be a real free press.

I also think that the arts are an essential part of a functional culture.  Most of the American entertainment industry has nothing to do with creative endeavor; instead, it has cultivated, and takes pride in, a vicious hatred of education and the fundamentals of morality.
