Thoughts about negotiating with other countries

It used to be that communication with other countries was difficult.  In my lifetime, that has changed by 180 degrees.  Real time, conversational dialogue around the clock is now not only possible but how the world operates.  It is more difficult to shut off dialogue than to continue it; I was in my mid-twenties before that total reversal of how society is structured acclerated.

I think that means that politics also need to make use of that capacity rather than to be outpaced by it.  I'm not saying that binding, written agreements have no place now; I just think that they may turn out to be less effective than what can be done when dialogue is turned into the goal rather than only the means to an end.
