Stop the correlation between financial/prestigious value to an organization and impunity.
Send that message unequivocally to everyone who could hear it, from kids to coaches, parents, crowds, owners, administrations, advertisers, sports journalists, networks.
Don't just build awareness. Build a collective conscience.
A culture of star impunity doesn't help anyone; his life is ruined, too. If he'd understood sooner that there would be consequences for his actions, he might not be in this situation. Now he has to answer for what an institution (professional sports and all that leads to a career in them) failed to impress upon him would ruin his career.
College isn't a qualification for these careers, is it? Shouldn't it be? Don't you want thinking athletes working for you, not just people who have to memorize what right and wrong are according to their employers?
