It's not surprising that celebrity culture is a culture of narcissism, self-centeredness and impunity historically unprecedented by anything except despotic royalty.
Regardless of their complaints about the paparazzi and having no privacy, celebrities never really stop being excused and even supported by the media for crimes that they commit against regular people and society. To treat the stars of this twisted, rapacious, insidious industry as if they have to respect the law or to be responsible for their lives would be a threat to corporate American journalism's impunity for ruining other lives by unnecessary invasiveness, inaccurate reporting and sheer malice.
