That was my question about Bill Cosby when his secret activities were finally public knowledge. I doubt that Ms. DeGeneres has raped anyone, but what toll does it take on the psyche of an insightful, funny person to have to avoid all public discussion of the vicious absurdities of discrimination and inequality?
Some people can lie for a living, can build personas on deception. For people who can do that, I guess the atrocities inflicted on the privacy and dignity of the unsuspecting and innocent public really do seem funny; maybe those atrocities even seem fair to them.
