There's a college professor who sometimes teaches free writing classes at homeless shelters. One of the homeless men whom she taught went on and eventually graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience.
At least half of the people who work for the Pine Street Inn or other shelters wouldn't be able to spell "neuroscience" or even recognize the word in a dictionary. They are not capable, in their current and perpetual state, to support homeless people to goals past subsistence. Some of those employees, as limited as their ability to be helpful is, are very nice people. Many of them are not.
