From Jamaal Bowman's Twitter:
__________
The lyrics to WAP make the worst things that I ever say or write seem like appropriate speech for a PTA meeting.
Megan Thee Stallion is not a good role model. The New York Times should not be giving her a platform as if she is, but it does because she perpetuates slave-era racial and gender stereotypes for black women. That is also why she is successful in the deeply mysognist and ignorant music industry. Self-respecting, educated women of color almost can't get hired by the entertainment industry; when they can, they have to dumb themselves down, sex themselves up, or otherwise conform. That industry likes a formula. It particularly likes people who embody stereotypes and it particularly hates people who defy stereotypes.
I haven't claimed to be a role model. What I have said for a decade and counting is that the morality of the world's power structure needs to stop imploding.
I do not like Mr. Bowman so far.
