I don't like assassination any more than I did a few days ago.

However, if the operations that General Soleimani was accused of plotting had been carried out, the Trump administration would have been blamed for that.

I disagree, and have always disagreed, with those of the media and in American politics who are unwilling to consider the positive aspects of any action which the Trump administration takes.  I think, and have always thought, that the frenzy which has been directed at President Trump has increased risks rather than mitigated negative aspects of his strategies.  He is hemmed in and attacked for everything, and this causes other governments to act aggessively when they might otherwise be willing to consider negotiation more seriously.  It's not as if they don't read or watch American news or the Twitters of other American politicians.

I hope that war with Iran can be avoided, but it is not the fault of the Trump administration or of President Trump's continual detractors that Iran conducted strikes today.  People make their own decisions and are responsible for them.
